Research and Development Work

The core objective of the centre is competence building for research and development activities related to inland and coastal shipping. The principal research aspects include hydrodynamic and structural design of inland and coastal vessels, shipbuilding, intelligent transport systems, cryogenic cargo handling, and development of wave energy devices. CICMT will be the only centre in India to have shallow water ship model testing facility, which is a basic requirement for inland vessels. This should have immense contributions to the inland shipbuilding activities of the country, in terms of both vessel design development and testing.

Renewable energy harvesting is of prime importance considering the increasing energy demand of the country and necessity of pollution control. The centre will actively engage in research activities for feasibility of green energy generation and the subsequent development of efficient devices. The centre will also be engaged in joint research activities with DST, Germany, a collaborator of IWAI regarding inland waterway transport activities. The research outcome from the proposed centre in terms of theses, publications, and reports will aid the growth and development of the national maritime industry in general
